I see on the homepage that it says an important Page Plus announcement is coming very soon. I hope it's Unlimited Web!!!

I'm not getting my hopes up but on the old forum hidden in the mix of messages, she did mention about having/smelling a few blackberrys that were starting to ripen. I believe that this statement was cleverly concealed in the midst of a reply.

My brain's OS hasn't booted up all the way yet :D, I couldn't locate the message.

It probably is Blackberries. But if it is , will PPC intro its own Berries?
And will it be an addon to an existing plan or another one in its own right?
Perhaps more data (but probably not unlimited) options?

Whatever it is, I can't wait!

If Blackberries are allowed is there any chance that "push" email could be used successfully?

Ok. So i was talking today to a guy who's a Master Agent for Page Plus. He sells phones to page plus dealers. Anyway, he was saying that as he goes from store to store, he hears that people are using their Blackberry's on PP. And that PP has started charging BB users an extra $10 for unlimited WEB.

Not true. But... WHEN blackberries are allowed back on the network, I suspect they will be allowed on with full BIS support - including push email.

If Berries are allowed and unlike VM and Boost mobile, have full Bis AND Bes, you will have a nice following among business users (careful on the utnt there...). All those now worthless Verizon Blackberries will be able to function again. Especially the cool ones like the Storm, Curve and Bold series.

I don't know about that, unless they decide to add a business plan, but according to the posted UT&T policy, any business use is considered abuse by Page Plus, the TOS states that phones are for personal use only.

If I am not mistaking. Pageplus utnt plan is not for businesses but for consumers. I think businesses can still use pay as you go & t&t plan if they so choose. In the old UTNT agreement businesses were allowed to use it, but in the new UTNT commercial use is prohibited.

From the Page Plus Unlimited abuse policy: "A proprietary program of complex algorithms is used to identify the behavior patterns of customers who are abusing the unlimited plan. Those who have been determined to be abusing the system are then moved to the standard pay-as-you-go plan."

Maybe they'll be using that proprietary program of complex algorithms on the Blackberry plan? Lmao

tmason68
08-04-2010, 10:51 AM
Southcarolinaboy...there are many, many, MANY non-Blackberry solutions to "I want to get my e-mail" without switching off from PagePlus.

southcarolinaboy
08-04-2010, 10:53 AM
Yeah, but I am hoping that if PP allows BB's they would add an unlimited BB plan. I would need unlimited Data or Unlimited BB to get push email. I had a Q9 but had to keep manually checking my email. I need something that delivers email instantly throughout the day.

Micallen
08-04-2010, 10:56 AM
Heck, my Samsung SCH-i760 can do that. You can set the intervals - or check it manually. And you can have more than 1 e-mail acct if you wish (I have 3 set up on it). (PS, I may sell it :) )

southcarolinaboy
08-04-2010, 10:57 AM
Yeah, but does it delivery push email? And if so, wouldn't that eat up your 20mb in a few days?

Micallen
08-04-2010, 11:05 AM
No, but you can set the interval between checks. I don't really understand the difference I guess. I have TNT1200, and I never come close to using up my 50MB. You can set the e-mail to truncate the e-mail at 50K or whatever you want. That way, you don't eat up your data on junk e-mail with pix attached. When you do get an e-mail that's over the set size that you do want to see all of it, you "click for more." That's how you save data using email.

tmason68
08-04-2010, 11:29 AM
I do headers only and no images. That way I can pick and choose what to read on my phone and what to ignore or wait until I am at a computer. Like Micallen said, you just schedule how often to check. If you set your important e-mail account to check every 5 minutes, its about the same as push e-mail, except I would imagine push would use more data as it probably pushes the whole message to the phone.

I have the same plan as Micallen and I have to really try to use up my data (of course I also have WIFI on my phone).

Hey, if they give me byod, I'm ALL for it. I've read on Hofo that Blackberries sip data compared to other smartphones anyway (Something like 50+ megs a month vs half a gig or so for iphones/Androids on average use).

250 megs on a Verizon mvno plan would be unbelievable. If they'd extend that kind of generous data offerings to their other monthly plans.

And if Verizon would start extending that to their mvnos in general. I've seen some mvnos charge $80 a gig. C'mon...

There are lots of Vz mvnos that allow Berries for now. Just use a Berry on there till PPC gets theirs IF they ever get it. Vz Prepaid was supposed to get Blackberry prepaid plans back in April but that turned out to be unfounded speculation despite the usually reliable source (BGR , Boy Genius Reports). If Big Red is late with it, expect a mvno like PPC to definitely be on country time. Usually late.

There are tons of cool Winmo and Android devices to play with. Vz is gunning for the iphone so hard, it's not even funny and their iphone killer number one is their horde of Android Smartphones like the Droid, Droid X, Incredible, upcoming Droid 2 and beyond.

No berries? Life's not over yet. And Android or Winmo on PPC is FREE. However, I'd love to have seen a plan with 250megs of data on a Vz mvno. Sprint mvnos have unlimited but VZ is so scroogey with their data that a quarter meg feels like an avalanche. It helps that Berries sip data vs Droids and Winmo. That's one area where Berries excel.

Which Verizon MVNO's allow BB's?

groze

Mingo & Airvoice cdma allowed bb but you couldn't access the BIS except on mingo and you need your own wap service for Mingo. That has changed both are going to sprint. (Not 100% sure on Airvoice)

I think he is referring to Blackdog wireless a postpaid mvno. I don't know if he is taking new customer.

The Samsung Omnia supports push e-mail. I assume there are several Windows Mobile phones that do.

imaplowboy
08-18-2010, 10:47 AM
You need to be careful with push email or email checking normally on smart phones, on my WM, it takes 250kb just to check if I have any mail, then it adds to it the mail headers it downloads.

Now, if I had no email, and checked my email every 10 minutes, 250kb(6)=1,500MB

And some people wonder how they run out of data so quick :-)

The above was an estimate as we don't know what scale Page Plus or Verizon uses (or would they be the same scale?) I'm talking about the 1000kb and 1024kb scale.

I usually keep my data disabled and get all my stuff when I hit a hot spot. :-)

FYI you just use WiFi. Simple. PPC doesnt have enough data to use ANY data outside of a WiFi network other than what the phone leaks. I found this out first hand. I would go as far as having them turn it off. If they didnt take MMS out of your data usage, I would.

carpediemnow
08-20-2010, 06:02 AM
That's what I hated about their so called new "unlimited" mms. How can it be "unlimited" when you're given a finite amount of transport data? It should be "potentially unlimited mms". lol

Exactly right. As much as I like PPC, they do ALOT is mis-advertising. Booting people off for actually using the unlimited, and "unlimited MMS", which as you said is limited to the data. Its crazy, but I think they are only trying to find a niche in a growing market. This will even out soon, or else PPC will be no more. They have to shape up in this ever-competing market.

I check email a few times a day, and actually download and read some of it, and I don't use that much.

I was talking about checking email every 10 minutes continuously, I check mine
via the phone's account manager (I have 5 POP accounts configured on my phone).

I was just saying that if a person configured their WM phone to connect and check email every 10 minutes, their 20 or 50MB of data would go quick, depending upon how they configured their account on their phone (limited days (like last three days of messages only), headers only or full messages, etc.)

Manual checking only a few times a day won't use much, I actually use nodata so I get an "Unable to obtain IP address" error every now and then.

As for checking my email, it either downloads automatically when I am
on Active-Synch or hit a hot-spot.

Although, I am not sure how push email would work (Using MES).

JB

dollymadison
08-23-2010, 10:14 AM
When I set my email to download every ten minutes I used up my 20mb in about three days. I was so mad! Now I check it about three times a day and that works fine for me.

imaplowboy
08-24-2010, 01:56 PM
At least the program nodata ONLY controls the data connection to the cellular network and doesn't turn off all forms of data.

For example, I have nodata disable my phone's data line connections, but it has no effect whatsoever when I hook it to my computer (the phone then automagically uses my computer's internet connection), the same happens if I connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, and I am usually always near a free wi-fi spot, so the phone will do what it needs to do when it finds a working connection since it can no longer connect on its own unless I tell nodata to enable line data (which I rarely do).

Well, if this is true, this may have been what PP was waiting for (Verizon prepaid to allow blackberries), :-) however, on Verizon's announcement, I didn't see anything about support for BIS/BES, or I could of missed it.

What does concern me is that Windows Mobile phones will not be allowed, will this mean that all Windows Mobile Phones will now be added to the ban list, preventing activation on Page Plus?

Of course, V didn't say they never would be allowed, they just stated upon launch that they wouldn't be allowed.

Then I don't automatically believe everything I read online either, however official the "materials" look.

If they do actually implement these plans, their MVNO's shouldn't be to far
behind them. :-)

The Verizon prepaid plans are the only Verizon based mvno/prepaid plans that offer unlimited data and byod. Straight Talk has unlimited data, no byod. Most other Verizon mvnos like Page Plus and Lucky have byod but no unlimited data.

jclendineng
09-06-2010, 08:17 PM
Actually you can byod on Revol, which offers insanely low prices (45 bucks for unlimited everything, data no cap), and they are nationwide. Not as wide as verizon, but they have pretty nifty coverage. Also, free roaming, so it is truly nationwide. I actually called them and talked to them about activation, and they do NOT filter esn's, or devices, only require a correct prl, and a "revol flash" which anyone with the right tools can do on their own.

Edit: The coverage for talk/text is great, where upon further inspection, data is lacking a bit. But about like looking at att coverage map haha ;)

The new plan is going to be something like this: Byod/Blackberries, unlimited talk/text/mms AND 250 megs of data (a blackberry plan). Im going to say probably around 60 bucks a month. Hopefully coming in a few weeks :)

I'd like to hope they will match Cricket and offer b.y.o.d. and unlimited everything (voice, text, data) for $60/month.

What I can't understand is that Cricket offer Android users unlimited everything, including data, for just $55/month. Perhaps they think that people buy Droids just for show and don't use the data feature as much as Blackberry users would?

carpediemnow
09-09-2010, 05:29 AM
I guess we'll see. 250megs ain't unlimited but it's a quantum leap over Att's 100 megs /$20, Tmobile Prepaid's dollar an hour unlimited, Verizon mvnos $40 and up for that amount, and PPC's own measly 20 to 50 megs.

jclendineng
09-09-2010, 08:30 AM
Let me say that I do not know for sure. This is just what I have heard. And Also let me point out that Cricket runs their own towers. Verizon will not give any mvno unlimited data. I am almost for sure. If they did, I would be so happy you would not believe, but thats just not like Verizon. I agree pcguru, and thats what I have always said, that Verizon needs to match their competition (Cricket, Virgin Mobile, Revol), but with unlimited everything on Verizon's "prepaid plan" around 120-130 dollars a month, I do not see them giving mvno's any kind of good data packages. If I am wrong, I will be glad I was, but at the moment, Verizon is not that "nice".

Edit: PPC will no doubt allow berries back on their plans, but beyond that is all rumor. Since I personally have a droid, which made me see how useless a berry is, (sorry if you own one), I want plans that will benefit android users. Like unlimited data.

lol. I got rid of my T-Mobile Blackberry. The coverage wasn't good. I didn't get signal in my house or at my job so I am back to Page Plus. Still holding out hope for a Blackberry but I think I might try the HTC Ozone first.

Page Plus is making changes. For the better, just not in the areas we have been wanting (more data/Blackberries, etc). They finally allow stacking on the Talk/text plans. And their CS is reportedly getting much better.

Good. Now they can get to work on the other stuff...

$60 Unlimited talk/text/mms and 250 megs data for Blackberry/smartphones on Page Plus? I'd buy that.

Its coming! I do not know when, but that blackberry plan is on its way!! Hoping for more data than expected though...but this is coming from some pageplus people so something is on its way!! Virgin mobile usa just added an android phone, and they have the curve 2 with unlimited data and texts for 25 bucks...verizon has to jump in sometime...one can always dream :)

read an article in albany ny craigslist.that a pp dealer guarantees activation on any bb phone through pp ..but dont know what plans would fall in bb catagory..

A Blackberry device is a banned device on PP. Period. When someone advertises the ability to do something that is in direct contrast to what a business's stated policy is, you have to wonder how they are doing it and if their actions are ethically sound.

They're cloning/rewriting esns, plain and simple. Illegal stuff. Stay away from it. Bad news.

Any cdma phone can be byoded (illegally) to ANY cdma network if you do this. Sprint mvnos, Tracfone, Straight Talk, Virgin Mobile, all the companies that don't allow byod will get it (against their policy and will) if one does the above.

Again, it's illegal. The only Blackberries that get through legally have been due to plain dumb luck.

Wayne, I didn't mean to sound harsh if I did; I just wanted to make it clear Blackberries are still banned from PPC.

Page Plus is a privately owned company. There is nothing anywhere that says they MUST allow Blackberries. In order to allow blackberries they must have the proper licensing in place from RIM. It is purely a business decision whether the cost of the licensing is worth it compared to what they can sell the Blackberry service for.

Remember, Page Plus has the BEST rates for any MVNO out there, with the best coverage of any network in the USA. Period. Hands down. You can use a Windows Mobile based smartphone, which is VERY much like a Blackberry. Page Plus does not HAVE to allow blackberries - ever - if it's not the right business decision for them.

Agreed. I'll take Windows Mobile over a blackberry anyday. Just personal preference. And hey, WM phones are allowed on Page Plus, unsupported, but allowed, I've used my HTC Ozone forever and the only thing it CANNOT do that a BB can is "Blackberry Messenger" - but who cares? I have IM+ which does AOL, Yahoo, etc. and it's just as good.

My husband bought a Droid Eris on ebay and I was messing around with it and fell in love, so he gave it to me for my birthday lol. It worked out for both of us; I got a great phone and he is going to get an Incredible, so we are both happy lol.
