There hasn't been any new poll for awhile so I thought I make one.

This posting is also part-rant because I never understand why
receivers pay for text messages that he/she may not want. There
is nothing to stop spammers (the "dirty" kind) from grabbing your
cellphone's email address and send you SMS spams.

Maybe others have different opinions - please post.

Well...yes, and no. I believe if you are receiving txt msgs as normal, i.e. people who AREN'T spammers, you should be required to pay for them as outlined by your wireless plan. BUT, I also believe there should be some protocol in place where you can ban someone from sending you a text, unfortunately, I'm not sure how that will be possible. You can't block someone from sending you an email, although you can send it to your spam file. I think there should be a capability to send text messages to a spam file.

I guess I gave a non-answer lol. I didn't vote because I don't have a y/n answer. :D

Interesting poll, Sheng-Chieh!

I believe people should have an option to block txt messages from annoying/harassing texters. If people had the tools to do that with, then yes, sms's should be charged to receive.

Right now there is nothing stopping someone from mass-texting you, burning up your texting allowance, through no fault of your own.

Did you know that in Europe and most of the world, you are not charged for incoming calls? Only charged for outgoing. You can buy a prepaid cell and continue receiving calls with no credit on your phone!

charging for outgoing emails and texts would kill the spammers.the reason spam and junk texts/faxes are such a problem is that they can be sent free and anonymously.make them pay to send and the problem is fixed overnight.

Charging for outgoing emails would increase the cost of doing business online dramatically. Kitty Wireless alone sends 7,000-10,000 emails per day.

A more important reason. Charging for email will stop spams. It change radically the economic of spams.
Even Bill Gates said 1 cents per email - not going to kill anybody except spammers (whom sent zillion a day).

I think $.01 per email would have a very detrimental effect on small business's. $70-$100 a day extra out of Kitty's bottom line would have a huge effect on her business. If she was GE or Hewlett Packard, etc. then it wouldn't bother them a bit....

I doubt this will ever happen, but if it did, we would most likely:

- Stop the free reminders program.
- Stop the free phone status reports from the web.

These two things alone generate 30-40% of our email volume.

I believe it is working correctly now. All users pay a part in the cost. So, I don't think a sender only charge would be of any benefit. It would cause small business to spend more and in long run any savings to me would be lost.

Just contact PPC again and request to have texting disabled also.
