Let these top 1% pay more for bandwidth - cheaper for the rest of us.

Well, if they are kicking off or throttling the top 5 percent at various carriers, that's really the data hogs' problem isn't it?
I understand if not necessarily like why there are capped and tiered data plans rather then unlimited anymore (though unlimited talk/text continues as it is so cheap and people appear to be shifting more towards data and texting).
Let them pay the price. It's only fair. I'm sure the carriers have no problems with that.

It just seems crazy to me that some people use their phone to watch movies. I have a TV for that... The data overload problem is partly the carrier's fault as they are always advertising how you can use their smartphones to watch movies and do other data intensive stuff.

While I do agree for the most part, there are center exceptions. One of the guys on the fire dept has a new Samsung Galaxy Nexus something or other and he is grandfathered on Verizon unlimited data. Every now and then we have to standby at a hazmat site, fuel spill, etc to monitor air quality every 30 minutes. It's nice to be able to watch Netflix at 3am when you are by yourself..... That's just one example.
On another note, did anyone see the 3 train wreck on the news that happened yesterday here in NW Indiana? It is about 6 miles from my house.... and thank God not in my fire district :)

Was that the one where one train rear-ended a second train and the derailment went onto the adjacent track and was hit by a third train? Saw it on Fox News. Pretty amazing! There were tanker cars, so I presume that there could have been some flammable or explosive or poisonous materials. They showed some flames near some of the wrecked train cars. At the time there were no known fatalities.

For about 30 seconds. Been doing this for 29 years, Lortikit, so the newness wore off a few years ago. Still have to go keep an eye on my crew if they got called. Yes, OD, that's the one. 2 minor injuries and they were treated and released. God really watched over those boys... Many empty ethanol cars, so they contributed to burning. Molten sulfur in a few others, then regular freight that caught on fire. Many, many cars derailed. And this is the major CSX thoroughfare through the Midwest

I think hybrid phones (like RW sells) is going to take off. Carriers will want/encourage users to use their wifi whenever possible
as to lighten their loads. How? - I don;t know.

I understand the new Genie grant your wish voice service Siri on the iphone 4s uses up to triple the data for an equivalent iphone 4 user. Ridiculous. Cap and throttle baby, cap and throttle. Fair is fair except with wifi. lol
