View Full Version : Fascinate won't install Gingerbread

I have a Fascinate Sch-1500.ED05 with Froyo 2.2

The Gingerbread OS (2.3.5) became available for the Fascinate about a month ago.

Apparently, most of the Fascinates (according to discussions at androidforums.com) got updated over-the-air automatically. Since mine did not, I launched "Check for system updates" but the result is, "No system updates available."

Anyone know of a work-around? The androidforums folk who don't have Verizon data service have not been able to install it either, so I wonder if this is a PagePlus problem.

My phone is not rooted. I decided I'm unwilling to root...

I would think the android forums folks would have an answer before we would. My guess is that you can root it and install a ROM that is very close to stock GB.

Make sure that when you are checking for updates you have data turned on. Many of these updates will not work through wifi.

I forced a recheck on my Inc by changing its clock. Try for the day of the update at 1AM, then each successive day for at least a week, if that doesn't work. If the update is still available, changing the date just might trigger a fresh auto-update a few minutes after you change its clock.

I got 2 Allys almost a year ago, and as soon as I turned them on, before activating, an update announcement was displayed, and I was able to update them to 2.2 successfully over WiFi. The same thing happened with the Incredible that I got in September 2011. I got the Android update over WiFi right away, before activating it on PPC later in October. I guess the fact that some devices, even if NOT activated with a cell service, get Android updates automatically over WiFi, while others can't seem to get Android updates at all, is the source of frustration/confusion.

Did this work for your Incredible? Yes. The first go-around, when the update was offered, I could not install it. I fixed the issues in the next day or two, but it didn't offer the update again until I backdated.

I have a hard time believing that. Most carriers are getting away from unlimited data. That would be really bad if they forced you to burn your allotment on an os upgrade.

What were the issues that you fixed that had caused it not to update originally? I didn't have enough space for the update until I deleted a few apps. Then, it won't reboot the update until I did a "Wipe cache partition" in HBOOT. I thought I documented the troubles I went through here on KWF, but one-time-wonder willeo beat me to it in this thread (post 16): http://www.kittyforums.net/showthread.php/2442-HTC-Incredible-2-3-4-update

I believe it was the X (though I'm not positive) that required a data connection. I tried the wifi and it would not work. I discovered thorough the net that it would not work over wifi. Sure enough, when I turned data on it worked. It ran through my 100 mb, but what are you gonna do.

My firmware version is 2.1-update1. ODIN cannot use my phone.

I've updated 5 Samsung Fascinates using ODIN. Either something isn't configured correctly, or you don't have the samsung drivers loaded

I am using Mobile ODIN on the phone itself, not on a PC.

Also I use Windows 8. I just read to install Samsung Kies on Windows and then use ODIN for Windows. I am trying that now.
