USA Today article says nearly half of all cell phone subscribers are smartphone users now. An interesting fact is that voice minute usage is dropping. Looks like data is going to be king!

I saw my brothers VZ bill sitting on the table the other day and saw that he pays about $110/month. I checked his usage and it as a little over 150 TOTAL minutes and less than 100 TOTAL texts. But then I noticed he used 3GB of the 4GB allowance of 4G data. To him data is worth that much. I tried to sway him to PPC, but the moment I said the highest STOCK plan included 1GB, he stopped listening. I'm in the wrong business. I need to find a way to be a data provided.

That seems to be the way it is going for a lot of users. I have trouble understanding why so much data is so important. I guess I have enough WiFi to help me keep the data usage down.

It is ALL DATA at this point. Zeroes and Ones. Minutes? Dead. Texting plans? Shopping for caskets. The marketing model is outdated. Sell me a bucket of DATA. GrooveIP. SIPdroid. Google Voice. "There's an app for that." There are so many viable alternatives to talk/text plans. Nowadays, kids don't want to be called. They are even slowing up on the text messages. "Facetime me" is what I'm hearing. They don't even need a phone. They'd sooner use an iPod Touch as a communication device. Can you blame them? This new generation can't fathom the thought of having to conserve data. To them, it's about as ridiculous as conserving air. When the electricity goes out, they FREAK.

Strange, but SO many of the people who I tell about PP also state the same thing. They tell me there is NO way they could possibly get by on ONLY 1 GIG per month. When I tell them I get by on less then 2 mb per month, they look amazed!

I think some people worry that there's some sort of process to go through to use wifi, as opposed to data each time.

I think some people worry that there's some sort of process to go through to use wifi, as opposed to data each time. For my work, I occasionally visit public schools. When I use wifi I find out that they have blocked certain sites, like facebook, ebay, and who knows what else. So the kids "need" the data at school.

A little off-topic, but as of last weekend, I have now experienced two hotels where the browser redirect to a page requireing a u/n and p/w would NOT work on Androids. This is an ongoing issue, for up to 4 years, according to what I found in a Google search. iPod Touches, old WinMo phones, and laptops all connected fine. It is apprantly some Android weakness that can't deal with some sort of router security abnormality that other devices can handle with no problem. I don't understand how this can continue for so long without Android fixing the problem!
